[WALMSLEY, Edward.] Physiognomical Portraits. One Hundred Distinguished Characters from Undoubted Originals. London: for the Proprietor, sold by John Major et al., 1821-1824. 10 parts., first issue Subscribers' edition, this being number 99 of 100 copies of Proofs on Indian Paper, folio (300 x 227mm.) 104 engraved portraits with tissue-guards, 4pp. biographical text to each, engraved title-pages, 4 extra plates including a duplicate of Michelangelo and of Van Dyke, plus a cancel variant of portrait of Joshua Reynolds. (Marginal damp-stain to rear leaves of part 8, toning, occasional mild spotting, title loose in part 7, some mis-matching in the last two parts, e.g. Shakespeare should be in part 8 but is in part 9.) Near contemporary limp red morocco, black morocco lettering piece to upper covers (all spines worn, soiling). Note: it was published again in two volumes in 1824 (10).
