MAWE, John. The Linnaean System of Conchology, Describing the Orders, Genera, and Species of Shells, Arranged into Divisions and Families. London: for the Author, 1823. First edition, 8vo (211 x 123mm.) 37 hand-coloured lithographed plates with tissue-guards. (Toning, some browning, spotting to the tissue-guards.) Brown half calf over marbled paper-covered boards, later black morocco lettering piece to spine (rebacked with original spine laid-down, endpapers replaced.) Provenance: Ann Capron (gift inscribed to on the initial blank; B.S. Morton, marine ecologist (bookplate to the front pastedown). - And a related volume (William Wood's 'Index Testaceologicus; or, A Catalogue of Shells, British and Foreign, Arranged According to the Linnean System' with 38 hand-coloured plates, 1825, 8vo) (2).
