LOT 3503
QUAGLINO, Giovanni. The Complete Hostess. [London:] Hamish Hamilton, 1935. First edition, signed and inscribed by Giovanni Quaglino, 8vo (197 x 128mm.) Illustrations by Anna K. Zinkeisen. (Mild toning.) Original pictorial cloth (toned, minor soiling to lower cover). Note: the inscription reads: 'to my most charming patron, Giovanni Quaglino, Nov 1935'. Quaglino's, created by Italian immigrants from Piedmont, North Italy, was the most fashionable restaurant in London in the 1930's. It was frequented by royalty, including Edward VIII and Mrs. Simpson, as well as the cultural and celebrity elite- Evelyn Waugh, Judy Garland and Barbara Cartland were patrons - while Princess Margaret had a table permanently reserved for herself. It's just possible that the most charming of the set were the Quaglino brothers themselves.
