ITALY. - Edward LEAR. Journals of a Landscape Painter in Southern Calabria. London: Richard Bentley, 1852. First edition, large 8vo (247 x 148mm.) 2 lithographed maps, 20 tinted lithographed plates. (Lacking half-title and the advertisements to rear, blanks replaced, toning.) Near contemporary blue half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (lightly rubbed, fading to spine). Provenance: Lord James Butler (bookplate to front pastedown); Eleanor Butler (name inscribed to title). [Abbey, Travel, 175].
