INDIA. - George Francklin ATKINSON. Curry & Rice (On Forty Plates) or the Ingredients of Social Life at 'Our' Station in India. London: Day & Son, [circa 1859.] 4to (288 x 201mm.) 40 tinted lithographed plates, including the additional decorative title after designs by the author, each plate with 2pp. of accompanying text. (Spotting to margins and verso plates and to text leaves, marginal tears to several leaves, marginal loss to D2.) Original blind-stamped covers, decorative gilt to upper cover and spine, g.e. (minor soiling to lower cover, spine ends frayed, rubbing, some fading). Note: a satirical look at the British in India from a Captain in the Bengal Engineers. Provenance: Agmondisham Vesey (name inscribed to front-free endpaper); Marske Rectory (name inscribed to front pastedown).
