NATURAL HISTORY. - Thomas BELL. A History of British Reptiles. London: John van Voorst, 1839. First edition, with a tipped-in 3pp. a.l.s. by Thomas Bell, 8vo (209 x 133mm.) Numerous woodcut illustrations. (Light spotting to preliminaries.) Near contemporary brown morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, gilt lettering to spine, t.e.g. (rubbing to extremities). Note: the 27-line letter discusses specimens of field mice. Provenance: R.H. Valpy (name inscribed to front-free endpaper). - And a further six volumes related to natural history (including T.C. Eyton's 'A History of the Rarer British Birds', 1836, 8vo, with a presentation inscription from the author, and [Edward T. Bennet's] 'The Tower Menagerie', 1829, 8vo) (7).
