LOT 1155
A George III mahogany longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 15-inch painted breakarch dial with rolling moon to arch and inscribed 'High Water at Whitehaven' above Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, framing a scene of a hunter and his dogs, subsidiary seconds and date dials, inscribed 'Thos Armstrong Poulton', cornered with four figures emblematic of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, the hood with swan neck pediment, glazed door and reeded columns, the trunk with inlaid decoration and reeded columns, on an inlaid cut cornered base, height 242cm, with pendulum, two weights and winder. Note: Thomas Armstrong is a recorded clockmaker working in Poulton, Lancashire, between 1800 and 1857.
