LOT 1114
A mid-18th century oak longcase clock with thirty hour movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 10-inch square brass dial with chapter ring framing a matt centre, engraved with bird and inscribed 'Jno Inkpen Horsham', all cornered with cast and pierced gilt brass putti, crown and scroll spandrels, the hood with moulded pediment and glazed door, the trunk with rectangular door, on a plain base and plinth, height 193.5cm, with pendulum and weight (alterations and restoration). Note: John Inkpen is a recorded Horsham clockmaker. He was born circa 1700, took apprentice John Newnham in 1726 and was married in 1735 to Elizabeth Muzzle at Bolney. He died in 1759.
