LOT 1093
A mid-18th century oak longcase clock with thirty hour movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 10-inch square brass dial with single hand and silvered chapter ring, the silvered centre inscribed 'Edwd Gatland Cuckfield', within a floral scroll engraved surround, cornered with cast and pierced gilt mask and scroll spandrels, the hood with moulded pediment and glazed door above a rectangular trunk door, plain base and plinth, height 183cm, with pendulum and weight. Note: Edward Gatland is a recorded Sussex clockmaker, born in 1715, son of clockmaker John Gatland of Cuckfield.
