PHOTOGRAPHY. - John DAVIES. A Green and Pleasant Land. Manchester: Cornerhouse, 1987. Limited edition, this being number 34 of 250 signed copies, oblong 4to (229 x 293mm.) 37 black and white photographic illustrations, essay by Rob Powell. Original grey cloth, dust-jacket (Slight toning, small crease to spine panel). Note: scarce. In 'The Photobook: A History', vol. 2, Martin Parr and Gerry Badger write 'As one practising the objectivity of the New Topographic mode, Davies allows his pictures to speak for themselves, yet by focusing on patterns of land usage, he asks questions about the kind of political and economic forces that determine the often poor results of allowing full reign to the market'.
