BIBLE, In Latin. Codex Caesareus Upsaliensis… a Facsimile edition of an Echternach Gospel-Book of the Eleventh Century. Stockholm: Almqvist & Wiksell, 1971. Limited edition, this being one of 500 copies, folio (377 x 279mm.) Lithographic leaves with silk-screen gold-print, with accompanying volume. (Faint spotting to front-free endpaper.) Original vellum, gilt design and lettering to upper cover, cloth-covered slipcase with mounted paper label (rubbing with some marks). Note: known also as the 'Emperor's Bible', the Codex Caesareus was commissioned by the German Emperor Henry III and dates from 1050. It was written in the abbey of Echternach in Luxembourg.
