BIBLE, In English. The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments. Oxford: Clarendon press by Samuel Collingwood and Co., 1821. 8vo (190 x 122mm.) (Toning, front-free endpaper loosening) Contemporary black morocco, blind-tooled and gilt scrolling to covers, g.e. (rubbing to extremities). Note: Edward King's copy. When Bishop of Lincoln, King had been considered an 'Anglo-Catholic' and was accused of 'ritualistic practices' including the use of candles and incense. Eventually, his practices were upheld and in 2010 the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, called the prosecution of King an embarrassment to the church.
