A fine and rare 16th century 20 bore German (Saxon) wheel lock holster pistol (puffer) with two-stage barrel, barrel length 33cm, octagonal breech and all-steel lockplate with chiselled vice lock, sprung sliding pan cover with release button, flat wheel cover with engraved concentric circles, the dark patinated full wooden stock with all-over chequer decoration and mounted with foliate engraved white stag horn fittings, retaining ramrod, the ball pommel with inset white metal plaque, engraved with a helmeted bust amid foliage, total length 55cm.
