A rare Wedgwood Art Deco pale blue Jasperware Bicentenary Competition vase, dated 1930, designed by Emmanuel Tjerne, the ovoid body sprigged in white relief with mythical figures and animals representing the four elements, including a mermaid, pterocentaur, birds, fish and deer, the neck rim detailed 'WEDGWOOD' beneath a gilt metal mount, the foot with the dates '1730' and '1930' above a gilt metal mount, raised on a fluted, canted corner square base, impressed marks to base, height 48cm (minor faults). Note: The design of this vase was the winning entry in a competition staged to choose a commemorative piece for the bicentenary of the Wedgwood factory. Emmanuel Tjerne was a Danish glass artist. Provenance: This particular vase was presented to the artist Phillip Connard R.A., who was one of the judges for the competition. It has remained in his family ever since.
