BINDINGS. - William SHAKESPEARE. The Plays of… with Explanatory and Historical Notes… by Alexander Chalmers. London: for F.C. and J. Rivington, T. Egerton et al., 1823. 8 vols., new edition, 8vo (209 x 127mm.) Engraved portrait frontispiece. (Occasional spotting, browning, gazette cuttings mounted to front pastedown of volume 1.) Contemporary calf, two red morocco lettering pieces to the spines, triple gilt borders to covers (sticker and mark to upper cover of volume 1, rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Edward Breton (bookplates to front pastedowns). - And a further twenty-six leatherbound volumes (34).
