ENGINEERING. - John PERCY. Metallurgy. The Art of Extracting Metals From Their Ores… Fuel, Fire-Clays, Copper, Zinc, Brass, Etc. London: John Murray, 1861. Vol. 1 (only). 8vo (216 x 131mm.) Numerous illustrations. (Toning.) Contemporary calf, black morocco lettering piece to the spine (light rubbing). Note: scarce. Published in five volumes between 1861 and 1880 and still unfinished at his death. Over his lifetime, Percy amassed a collection of 3700 metallurgical specimens which was bought by the South Kensington Museum in 1889. The 'Percy Collection' remains at the Science Museum. - And a further nine bound volumes (including 'The Graver Thoughts of a Country Parson', 1862, 8vo) (10).
