LOT 1184
A late Victorian inlaid walnut drop dial wall clock with eight day movement striking on a gong, the painted circular dial with Roman numerals and inscribed 'A. Hays Ashburton', the circular surround and apron inlaid with geometric banding, flanked by carved foliate scrolls, height 71cm. Note: Adrian Hays was a German clockmaker and jeweller from Nussbach, Baden, who became a British subject in 1877 upon acquiring a Certificate of Naturalisation. He is recorded in Kelly's Directory of 1902 as a watchmaker living in North Street, Ashburton.
