WATKINS-PITCHFORD, D.J. 'B.B.' Manka, the Sky Gipsy. London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1939. First edition, signed by the author and with a 4pp. a.l.s, 8vo (229 x 141mm.) Illustrations by the author. (Mild toning.) Original cloth, dust-jacket (with chipping and a tear to spine panel). Provenance: Bernice S. Harby (bookplate to the front-free endpaper and recipient of the letter). Note: loosely inserted is a photo of 'B.B.' holding this signed copy of his book, and three more photos of the author. The 4pp. letter mention of where to find lists of his books, his recent prostrate operation (an 'old man's complaint') where his hospital stay was relieved by reading W.H. Hudson's 'Hampshire Days' and, more generally, the dangers women face these days ('chivalry has gone, to our shame') and his hopes to one day live in Hampshire where Mrs. Harby, the recipient, lives. - And a further six volumes by 'B.B.' (including 'Brendon Chase', 1944, 8vo) (7).
