BOGARDE, Dirk. West of Sunset. London: Allen Lane, 1984. First edition, signed in a presentation signature on the half-title and with 2 typed a.l.s. , 8vo (217 x 131mm.) (Mild toning.) Original pink cloth, dust-jacket. Note: written from his home in France the letters reveal Bogarde's feelings about England and his reasons for leaving ('I fled… because of the muddy, dull, conforming, indifferent, dull awful people who inhabit our once so lovely and jolly land') and also his thoughts on French politics. Also includes a further 3 signed postcards from Dirk Bogarde to the same recipient. Provenance: Robert Dalgety (inscribed to Robert on the title-page). - And a further ten volumes by Dirk Bogarde (including a signed copy of 'A Period of Adjustment', 1994, 8vo and a box of audio cassette tapes of the author reading 'Cleared For Take Off', 1995) (12).
