MANUSCRIPT. A hand-written book of minutes from the Westminster Bridge Office, London, 1762-63, 18cm x 11cm, containing 69pp. in three legible hands detailing a list of the 'Commissioners' and of 'nobleman balloted', then minutes relating to meetings on municipal works, mainly the paving of roads. Note: contains detailed notes on the 'experiment' and the progress of paving Parliament Street and York Street with 'Edinburgh paving stones', followed by work on Bridge Street and Albermarle Street while consideration is given to lighting lamps in York Street, mention is also made of sewers and '11 projecting water-sprouts' planned for Shugg Lane. Provenance: Mr. Townshend (name inscribed verso of upper cover).
