BRITAIN. - Thomas MADOX. Baronia Anglica. An History of Land-Honors and Baronies, and of Tenure in Capite, verified by record. London: Francis Gosling, 1741. Second edition, folio (357 x 222mm.) Engraved ornaments and historiated initials, 27pp. index to rear. (Occasional browning, some pencil underlining.) Contemporary calf, gilt borders and repeating gilt design to spine (lacking lettering piece to the spine, lightly rubbed, some fading). Note: Madox became Royal historiographer in 1714 and according to H. Hazeltine this work 'presents us with a picture, partial as it may be, as Madox himself admitted, of feudalism in its constitutional aspect'.
