SCOTT, Walter. The Lady of the Lake. Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1869. Author's edition, 8vo (198 x 126mm.) 11 mounted albumen prints, numerous illustrations within the text designed by Birket Foster and John Gilbert. (Heavy spotting to preliminaries and rear blanks, name inscribed to front endpaper, browning to front pastedown.) Morocco-backed Tartan ware boards with the tartan of clan McPherson over sycamore boards, with an original oval painting of Loch Katrine to the upper cover, green morocco lettering piece to the spine in the second compartment, elaborate repeating gilt to the rest, g.e., moiré silk endpapers (mark to upper cover, rubbing to spine).
