LOT 1152
A mid-18th century ebonized silent pull quarter repeating bracket clock timepiece, the eight day single fusee movement with verge escapement, striking quarters on two bells on demand, the backplate engraved with foliate scrolls and signed 'Sam. Young Nantwich', the brass breakarch dial with engraved silvered centre and silvered chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, cornered with mask and scroll spandrels, all beneath a silvered boss to arch, signed 'Samuel Young Nantwich', the case with single pad top and brass carry handle above a moulded arch pediment, glazed doors and sides, on a rectangular plinth base and brass bracket feet, height 48cm. Note: Samuel Young is recorded as a clockmaker working in Nantwich and Baddeley, Cheshire, between 1738 and 1760.
