HOOPER, William Eden. The British Empire in the First Year of the Twentieth Century. London: Heywood and Company Limited, [n.d. but 1902.] Limited edition de luxe, this being one of 1000 copies, 4to (276 x 211mm.) 2 folding maps in colour, numerous photogravure plates, including scenes of Ceylon, India, Africa, Hong Kong, Malta and Malaysia, tissue-guards, also numerous photogravure plates of 'notable men' of Empire and also 'types of native races'. (Browning to tissue-guards, occasional minor spotting to verso of plates.) Original vellum covers, gilt lettering to upper covers and spines (minor soiling). Provenance: Sir Charles Euan-Smith, soldier and diplomat (gift inscribed from him in ink on both front-free endpapers where he mentions that himself is one of the 'notable men' in volume 2); Edith Euan-Smith (gift inscribed to her in ink on the front-free endpapers); Philip Charles Euan-Belsan (gift inscribed to him in ink on the front-free endpapers) (2).
