[WARD, John]. Information Relative to New-Zealand for the Use of Colonists. London: John W. Parker, 1839. First edition, 12mo (221 x 130mm.) Folding map, 1pp. publisher's advertisement to rear. (Toning, marginal damp-stain to most leaves.) Original wrappers (upper cover detached and with paper repair), later green buckram with red morocco lettering piece to spine (a few marks to upper cover). Note: contains information on New Zealand's climate, soil, natural history and produce as well as a section on the native character and 'their capacity for civilization'. In 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the British Crown and Maori chiefs. Provenance: G. & N. Ingleton (bookplate to the front pastedown of the later cloth).
