An early 19th century French white marble and ormolu mantel clock with eight day movement striking hours and half-hours on a bell via an outside countwheel, the circular enamel dial with black Roman hour numerals and inscribed 'Cachard Sucr De. Ch. Le Roi Rue St. Denis N.56', the white marble case carved in the form of a classical nude maiden seated on rocks, the rectangular plinth inset with an ormolu panel of frolicking cherubs amidst clouds, on a stepped base and bun feet, height 37.5cm. Note: Gaspar Cachard succeeded the eminent Paris maker Charles Le Roi sometime between 1792 and 1795, when he purchased the highly reputable firm. Cachard continued the business from the same Rue St-Denis address, gaining repute as a fine clockmaker.
