An unusual pewter mounted German faience tankard, dated 1778, the cylindrical body painted with a lady in a bed, a swaddled baby in a cot next to her and a gentleman seated at the foot of the bed, flanked by Cupid and surrounded by text and rococo scrollwork, height 24cm (cracked and repaired). Note: the text, loosely translated, suggests that the lady in bed wishes to be left alone, despite the gentleman's keen advances.
