A Maori dense hardwood taiaha, probably late 19th century, the finial finely carved in the form of an upoko with inlaid mother-of-pearl eyes and long protruding tongue, worked with overall scrolls, the long shaft widening to form a flattened blade of rounded form, length 176.8cm (lacking one mother-of-pearl eye and minor cracks to shaft).
