LOT 1462
A rare Doulton & Co prototype maquette for the wall mask 'The Lion of the East', circa 1934, modelled by Richard Garbe as the head of a male wearing an elaborate pierced headdress of opposing seated lions, covered in a mottled turquoise glaze, unmarked, height 33cm. Note: a version of this mask was produced by Doulton as a limited edition piece, without the pierced detail, in a different glaze colour. The current owner purchased this mask from Sylvia Powell.
