TOLKIEN, J.R.R. The Lord of The Rings. London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd., 1955. 3 vols., first editions, 8vo (219 x 135mm.) 3 folding maps. (Mild toning, moderate spotting to rear endpapers and front endpaper of volume 3 and to fore-edge of volume 1.) Original red cloth (bumped to spine ends), dust-jackets (some browning, chipping to spine ends of volume 1). Note: 'The Fellowship of the Ring' is a 4th impression in a 4th impression dust-jacket, 'The Two Towers' is a 2nd impression in a 3rd impression dust-jacket, 'The Return of the King' is a 1st edition. 'The Return of the King' dust-jacket has the review notices on the rear inner flap but with no quote beneath the title of this volume. The text is without the mis-print at bottom of p.49, which Tolkien bibliographers now, having revised their opinion, note as a first edition point.
