AUTOGRAPH. A pencil autograph letter signed by Florence Nightingale dated 'March 4 / 89', 1p. 18cm x 11cm, the letter on black edged paper to Price's Patent Candle Co stating 'I had just praised your last candles when came one which went out with glittering & bad smell' (light soiling). Note: an interesting reference to candles. Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) was nicknamed 'The Lady with the Lamp', as she made solitary rounds at night carrying a candle in the military field hospitals during the Crimean War.
