LOT 4096
A set of eight rare Chinese Canton decorated export porcelain plates, early 19th century, each painted with mythical animals or sea creatures, framed by a triple border of roses, fruiting grapevine and blue lines, embellished in gilt, each plate indistinctly gilt monogrammed, diameter 24.5cm (all with rim damage). Note: this complicated design was possibly commissioned through the East India Company in London with the aid of its pattern books, possibly for an officer in the Company trading to China.
