LOT 2600
Charles Sargeant Jagger - No Man's Land, an early/mid-20th century brown patinated cast bronze rectangular relief plaque, first conceived 1919-1920, modelled as a soldier hiding among the bodies of his dead comrades at a listening post, bearing signature 'Sargeant Jagger' to lower right corner, 17cm x 49.6cm, mounted on a black slate stand. Note: there were two versions of No Man's Land produced, one with lines of text and one without. The large version in the Tate is without text and this is often regarded as the definitive example. With thanks to Anne Compton for her assistance in cataloguing this lot. Lit: 'The Sculpture of Charles Sargeant Jagger' by Anne Compton. Nos. 22 and 23.
