BACON, Francis. The Life and Letters of Francis Bacon… including all his occasional works newly collected by James Spedding. London: Longman, Green, Longman, and Roberts, 1861. 7 vols., 8vo (215 x 129mm.) Engraved frontispiece of Bacon, a tipped-in 4pp. letter addressed to Robert Milnes-Crewe. (Spotting to most preliminaries and rear leaves.) Near contemporary tree-calf gilt, by Riviere and Son, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, red and tan morocco lettering pieces to the second and third compartments, the others with repeat decoration in gilt, gilt turn-ins (minor rubbing to spine ends). Provenance: Robert Milnes-Crewe (bookplate to the front pastedowns); The West Horsley Place Collection.
