A Doulton Lambeth stoneware tobacco jar and cover, circa 1800-1891, by Bessie Newbery, the cover with finial and applied fruiting vine border, the body similarly decorated above five applied inscribed panels depicting Aesop's Fables, comprising 'Monkey King', 'Jackdaw & Peacocks', 'Stork & Fox', 'Fox' and 'Fox & Stork', against a combed buff ground, impressed factory marks and incised artist's initials to base, height 14.5cm (chips to rims and tip of finial).
