A George IV silver christening mug of horse racing interest, the cylindrical body chased in relief with flowers and foliate scrolls framing a central cartouche, engraved with a racehorse and jockey and inscribed 'Matilda 1827', flanked by a foliate capped scroll handle, Sheffield 1826 by John & Thomas Settle, Gunn & Co, height 8cm. Note: Matilda (1824-1846) was a British thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the St Leger Stakes in 1827.
