NAVAL DIARY. A vellum-bound naval diary kept by W.D. Welch, dated 1859-1882, approximately 178pp., leaves 19.5cm x 16cm, the diary begins with the Pacific Station based at Valparaiso, Chile, moving along the coast to Lima, Panama and Acapulco, and mostly concerning dinners, parties, games and dancing, with occasional naval interest, such as 'Wednesday 1st Jan'y 1862... Peruvian Man of War Steamer came into this harbour, at 4am, fired at the Loa and Amazonia, our launch hit by a grape shot'.
