A fine Chelsea porcelain 'ten square basin', circa 1753-55, of decagonal shape with an everted petal-lobed rim, painted in the Kakiemon palette with the Flaming Tortoise pattern to the exterior, the base interior with a curled dragon beneath a rim border of iron red and gold foliage, unmarked, diameter 18.6cm (small chip to rim). Note: a similar bowl sold in Bonhams Fine British Pottery & Porcelain sale, 2nd Dec 2009, Lot 26. They refer to another example in the Franks Collection of the British Museum and to 'ten square basins' listed in the 1755 Chelsea sale catalogue.
