(Some browning and damp-staining, occasional minor soiling, marginal worm damage, occasional minor marginal tears with loss, some repaired, title-page reinforced.) Contemporary calf (rebacked and recornered, endpapers replaced). Note: inscribed 'Though the original binding of this book had been repaired and rebacked by 1953 it was a complete wreck and re-binding was undertaken. The boards were too broken to reuse but their hide covering has been worked into the new binding' to rear pastedown. - And one other volume by Bacon ('Sylva Sylvarum: or, A Natural History'.
