LOT 2717
A rare fruitwood chalice, probably English, 16th/17th century, the wide, shallow bowl with everted lip above a wide central drip pan, on a waisted spreading pedestal, height 10.9cm. Note: the design of this chalice, particularly in the use of a wide central drip pan, is similar to that of some metalwork candlesticks of the 16th century, an example of which is illustrated in Geoffrey Wills' 'Candlesticks', David & Charles, 1974, plate 19. Provenance: Lot 506 in Toovey's sale of The Polly de Courcy-Ireland Treen Collection, 20th September 2006.
