LOT 340
An impressive late 19th century Indian silver punch bowl by Heerappa Boochena of Poona, the circular body finely cast and chased with four panels depicting various hunting scenes, including Indian and British huntsmen, tigers and lions, divided by acanthus scroll and foliate roundel borders, beneath a flowerhead and scrolling foliate rim, the base with stiff leaf band, on a similarly decorated circular pedestal foot, double stamped circular maker's mark to base, height 17.2cm. Note: this ornately decorated Indian silver bowl would, if it were not marked, likely be attributed as a piece of Lucknow or Kutch silver with its typical jungle and hunting scenes and finely worked coriander leaf borders. Little is known of the maker Heerappa Boochena, other than that he worked out of the city of Pune (formerly called Poona during British rule).
