BREES, S.C. Railway Practice. A Collection of Working Plans and Practical Details of Construction in the Public Works of the Most Celebrated Engineers. London: John Williams, 1837. First edition, 4to (277 x 214mm.) Double-page tinted lithograph frontispiece, 77 plates (62 double-page, 15 folding). (Browning, spotting, occasional soiling and marginal damp-staining, minor marginal tears with loss to four plates, top edge of frontispiece shaved.) Contemporary half-calf (extremities lightly scuffed, upper-hinge split). Note: the first of four series, but complete in itself, focussing on the London and Birmingham, Great Western, Greenwich, Leeds and Selby, Grand Junction railways and the aqueduct of the Lancaster Canal. Provenance: from the estate of the late Michael Gilkes FRCS, FRCOphth., FRGS.
