A mid-18th century French surveying compass, the printed paper dial inscribed 'Canivet Paris', with half-blued steel needle and silvered circumference scale, within a glazed walnut case inset with a brass plaque with engraved inscription 'Canivet a la Sphere a Paris', with sliding cover and pivoted side sight, length 17.5cm.
