GAY, John. Fables… With a Life of the Author. London: John Stockdale, 1793. First edition, 2 vols., 8vo (245 x 150mm.) Engraved frontispiece to vol. I, engraved title-pages, 68 engraved plates. (Light browning, some light spotting and occasional offsetting.) Near contemporary tree-calf, by Mansell, spine gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettering pieces in the second and third, the others with elaborate repeat decoration in gilt, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (extremities lightly scuffed).
