HUNT'S YACHTING MAGAZINE. - William KNIGHT (editor). Hunt's Yachting Magazine. London: Hunt and Son, August 1852-December 1855. Vols. I-IV only, 8vo (211 x 125mm.) Numerous lithographed plates. (Light browning, some spotting, occasional soiling and damp staining.) 20th Century cloth (extremities lightly bumped, spines faded). Provenance: Royal Ocean Racing Club (library stamps blocked out in ink to endpapers); The Michael Gilkes Collection. Note: this publication provides a snapshot of the yacht racing scene circa 1850, with the America's Cup first sailed for on the 23rd August 1851. The preface to vol. I refers to yacht clubs in the United Kingdom being supported by approximately 5000 members 'sending to sea… nearly a thousand vessels, used for pleasure only'. The volumes include plates illustrating the major racing yachts of the day in addition to the Eddystone Lighthouse (4).
