DU BATY, Raymond Rallier. 15,000 Miles in a Ketch. London: Thomas Nelson & Sons, [n.d. but circa 1914.] 8vo (184 x 120mm.) Portrait frontispiece, 7 uncoloured plates. (Browning.) Original cloth (extremities bumped and scuffed, lower joint splitting). Provenance: Jack Ellison Macartney (presentation inscription from the author dated '22/9/14' to front-free endpaper). Together with an a.l.s. by R. Rallier du Baty addressed to Jack Macartney's father dated '22 Septembre 1914' including a brief tribute to Captain Scott and an account of his childhood dream that led to his career as an explorer, (227 x 178mm.) within an envelope mounted to rear pastedown. Note: Captain R.F. Scott was the recipient's uncle. Provenance: The Michael Gilkes Collection.
