ROSS, James Clark. A Voyage of Discovery and Research in the Southern and Antarctic Regions, during the years 1839-43. London: John Murray, 1847. First edition, 2 vols., 8vo (212 x 127mm.) 2 tinted lithographed frontispieces, 5 tinted lithographed plates, 8 engraved maps (3 folding), 1 folding tinted lithographed panorama. (Browning, occasional spotting or minor soiling, marginal tear to folding panorama without loss.) Early 20th Century half-calf, spine gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettering pieces in the second and third compartments (extremities lightly scuffed). Spence 993. Provenance: Royal College of Surgeons of England (library stamps to title, dedication and p.1 of vol. I, and title, contents and verso of frontispiece of vol. II); The Michael Gilkes Collection.
