MURDOCH, W.G. Burn. From Edinburgh to the Antarctic. An Artist's Notes and Sketches during the Dundee Antarctic Expedition of 1892-93. London: Longmans, Green and Co., 1894. First edition, 8vo (220 x 135mm.) 2 maps (1 folding), numerous uncoloured illustrations, 32pp. advertisements at rear. (Light browning, some spotting, marginal tears with loss to pp.47-48 and pp.217-218.) Original decorative green cloth blocked in brown and silver (extremities lightly bumped and scuffed, spine slightly darkened). Spence 825. Provenance: C.E. Gill (ink inscription to half-title); The Michael Gilkes Collection. Note: one chapter is by W.S. Bruce, naturalist of the Barque 'Balaena', a pioneering whaling expedition considered to mark the start of the 'Heroic Age' of Antarctic exploration on which Murdoch was expedition artist.
