BORCHGREVINK, C.E. First on the Antarctic Continent, Being an Account of the British Antarctic Expedition 1898-1900. London: George Newnes, Limited, 1901. 8vo (216 x 138mm.) Photogravure frontispiece, numerous uncoloured illustrations, 3 folding maps, 32pp. publisher's advertisements at rear. (Light browning, occasional minor spotting, minor offsetting to title.) Original blue pictorial cloth blocked in silver and gilt, t.e.g. (extremities lightly bumped and scuffed, spine slightly darkened). Provenance: Mr Moberly Bue (presentation inscription from the author dated 'March 8th 1901' to half-title); The Michael Gilkes Collection. Note: The Southern Cross Expedition was privately funded by the publisher Sir George Newnes.
