LOT 1555
A set of six porcelain dessert plates, circa 1820-1830, possibly by Stephen Folch, each painted with a scene of India, titled 'View of Kalpy on the Jumna', 'View of Hydrabad', 'View of Hydrabad', 'Northern Entrance of Gundecotta Pass', 'View Within the Southern Entrance of Gundecotta Pass' and 'Mahore a Fortress Belonging to Nizam Ally', within palm leaf and wreath moulded borders with gilt rims, puce painted titles to each base, diameter approx 21.5cm (one with chip to underside of rim). Note: the views used on these plates are after a series of prints by Francis Jukes (1746-1812) and Sir Thomas Anburey (1759-1840), titled 'Hindoostan Scenery Consisting of Twelve Select Views of India'. Four of these plates are illustrated and discussed on page 121 of 'The Northern Ceramic Society Journal', Volume 26, 2010.
